Milling is a form of cold working of metal. Milling is fixing the blank and using a high-speed rotating milling cutter to run on the blank to cut out the required shapes and features. Traditional milling is mostly used to mill simple contour features such as contours and slots. CNC milling machines can process complex shapes and features. The milling and boring machining center can perform three-axis or multi-axis milling and boring processing for machining, molds, inspection tools, tire tools, thin-walled complex surfaces, artificial prostheses, blades, etc. When selecting CNC milling processing content, the advantages and key roles of CNC milling machines should be fully utilized.

Working Principle: Milling is a cutting method in which the rotation of the milling cutter is the main movement on the milling machine, and the feed movement of the workpiece is performed. The pros and cons of the milling performance of the tool material and the reasonable choice of the milling cutter angle will directly affect the productivity of the cutting process and the quality of the machined surface. In the milling process, the milling cutter should be selected and used reasonably according to the situation of the milling machine and the processing needs.

The main processing objects suitable for CNC milling are as follows:

1) Plane curve contour parts refer to parts with complex inner and outer curve contours, especially those whose contours are given by mathematical expressions as non-circular curves or list curves. Plane parts are the simplest types of parts in CNC machining.

2) Surface type (three-dimensional) parts refer to parts with three-dimensional space surfaces. The surface is usually designed by the teaching model, so it often needs to be programmed with the help of a computer, and its processing surface cannot be expanded into a plane. During processing, the milling cutter is always in point contact with the processing surface. The ordinary ball end milling cutter is processed by a two-axis and-a-half or three-axis linkage three-coordinate CNC milling machine. When the surface is complex, four-coordinate or five-coordinate CNC milling machines are used for processing, such as molds, blades, and propellers.

3) Variable bevel parts

Parts with a continuous change in the angle between the machined surface and the horizontal surface are called variable bevel parts. The feature of this type of part is that the processing surface cannot be expanded into a plane, but during processing, the moment when the circumference of the milling cutter contacts the processing surface is a straight line. Variable-bevel parts are generally processed by 4-axis or axis-linked CNC milling machines.

4) Parts that are difficult to process on other machine tools: parts with complex shapes, various sizes, and difficult to scribe and detect; high-precision parts; parts with high requirements for consistency.
