What are the commonly used materials for CNC machining?

Commonly used raw materials for CNC machining are: Aluminum alloy (6061-T6/7075-T6), Copper, 304 Stainless Steel, Carbon Steel, POM.

Material Properties:

6061-T6 aluminum alloy is a heat-treated corrosion-resistant alloy. The main elements are magnesium, silicon and aluminum. It is a heat-treated corrosion-resistant alloy, with strong strength and corrosion resistance, and good uniformity. It has a good processing effect and a good oxidation effect. No trachoma pores, good flatness.

7075 Aluminum Alloy is a cold-treated forged alloy with high strength, far superior to mild steel. 7075 is one of the strongest alloys commercially available. 7075 aluminum alloy has a compact structure and strong corrosion resistance, which is the best for aviation and marine plates. Zinc is the main alloying element in 7075.

Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc. Brass has good mechanical properties and wear resistance, and can be used to manufacture precision instruments, ship parts, and bullet casings for guns.

304 stainless Steel is a common material in stainless steel. In order to maintain the inherent corrosion resistance of stainless steel, the steel must contain more than 18% chromium and more than 8% nickel. High-temperature resistance, good processing performance, and high toughness. Widely used in industry and furniture decoration industry and the food and medical industry.

Carbon Steel is an iron-carbon alloy with a carbon content of 0.0218% to 2.11%. Also called carbon steel. Generally also contains a small amount of silicon, manganese, sulfur, and phosphorus. The higher the carbon content in carbon steel, the greater the hardness and strength, but the lower the plasticity.

POM （polyformaldehyde）has a very low coefficient of friction and good geometric stability, especially suitable for making gears and bearings. At the same time, it also has high-temperature resistance, so it can be used for pipeline devices (pipe valves, pump housings), lawn equipment, etc.

Commonly used aluminum alloy materials can be divided into two types: plate and profile.

Profile: Round bars/square materials/special-shaped materials belong to profiles. Round bars and square materials are commonly used specification materials in material factories, so we do not need to open profile molds. When the number of our products reaches a certain scale, we can consider customizing profiled materials. To customize special-shaped materials, we need to open our own profile molds.

Plate: It is a large rectangular plate, usually 1m x 2m in size, 0.2-200mm in thickness, and can be cut into smaller sizes as required.
